Westport wins top Tripadvisor award
Westport Woods is Ireland’s greenest hotel. They’re very proud of what they’ve achieved with their hotels composting and of the many awards they’ve won. Guests tell them they prefer staying in a green hotel too.
Westport’s environmental plan has resulted in changing the way they use energy, their recycling and composting activities and their approach to building and renovation. They recycle as much waste as possible, and involve guests in this through Green Bins in the bedrooms. They have installed Big Hanna, and feed her food prep waste, plate waste and leftovers. As a result Westport has reduced the amount of total waste going to landfill from 240 tonnes a year right down to just 35 tonnes. Overall their carbon emissions are already down by 65%.
In 2014, Westport Woods Hotel achieved Tripadvisor’s highest international environmental award in its Greenleaders Programme for its outstanding result in reducing its carbon footprint, energy conservation, waste recycling and social responsibility.
